U.S. News & World Report ranked Rowan University’s undergraduate engineering program among the top 20 in the nation for 2022 in the magazine’s much-watched “Best Colleges” issue.
The magazine, which for decades has ranked colleges and universities in a variety of categories, scored Rowan #88 among national public universities and #179 overall among national universities.
Now celebrating its 25th year, the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering earned additional accolades for specific programs in the magazine’s 2022 rankings:
“This year’s university and college rankings affirm what we have known for a long time: Rowan is a special place,” said Dr. Giuseppe Palmese, dean of the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering. “I am pleased to see our programs have received these recognitions and that our college and programs are included among the national leaders in engineering education.”
Founded in 1995 and named in honor of the university’s entrepreneurial benefactor, the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering quickly earned regional, national and international recognition for its unique approach to preparing future engineers through interdisciplinary, hands-on learning.
Starting in their first year, students work on projects inspired and sponsored by industry partners. Rowan University offers degrees in biomedical, chemical, mechanical, civil and environmental, and electrical and computer engineering, land surveying, as well as construction management, engineering entrepreneurship, engineering management and several engineering technologies.
Engineering faculty at the Carnegie-classified research institution have attracted millions of dollars in grant funding from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense and a growing roster of industry partners.
Overall, the University is ranked 57th among the most innovative schools and 71st nationally for its undergraduate teaching.
“Rowan’s mechanical engineering program produces outstanding engineers through a minds-on, hands-on approach leading to technical excellence, professional growth, and lifelong learning skills,” said Dr. Ratneshwar (Ratan) Jha, professor and head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. “Students analyze, build, and test their designs in a collaborative team environment using state-of-the-art machine tools and modern computational software. Our graduates are ready on Day One to face the many challenges in this complex and uncertain world.”
“We are all about TLC here: teamwork, leadership and community,” said Dr. Kauser Jahan, head of the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering. “The faculty are invested in providing an excellent education and unique, enriching research and service opportunities for our students. Our goal is to develop future leaders who demonstrate technical competence and are major contributors for the development of a sustainable world by tackling global grand challenges.”
