Aerospace engineers are the professionals who design and build aircraft and space vehicles. In the aerospace engineering minor, you’ll take courses in mechanical and electrical engineering that introduce you to fundamental topics in aerospace engineering.
The minor includes courses in numerical methods, system design, fluid dynamics and control systems as well as three required courses related to flight. The minor is open to any student at the university, but students majoring in engineering or the physical science may find the minor a good fit with their major.
This minor will prepare you for work in industries such as commercial aviation, defense, wind energy, automotive and more.
Housed in the Mechanical Engineering department, the minor in aerospace engineering can complement a variety of majors. The aerospace engineering minor emphasizes applications of mechanical engineering principles such as dynamics and controls, thermal-fluid sciences, and materials and manufacturing subsections, to the aerospace industry. It also prepares you to apply skills learned in mechanical engineering towards the design of highly complex aircraft and spacecraft systems. 
With a minor in aerospace engineering, you can be prepared for careers in and outside of the aerospace industry. If you become an aerospace engineer, your job will likely focus on designing aerospace vehicles, such as aircraft, drones or satellites. You may also work on designing the technology that these systems rely on, including communication, navigation, and control or propulsion.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 8 percent job growth for aerospace engineers from 2020 to 2030, with job growth fueled by the quest for quieter, more fuel-efficient aircraft. The reduced costs of satellites have increased their use among business and various levels of government, which should also contribute to job growth. Continued interest in drones is also expected to contribute to job opportunities for individuals with aerospace engineering expertise. 
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual pay for aerospace engineers was $122,270 in 2021.
