This paid internship program provides students the opportunity to gain work experience, develop professional competence and long-range career goals, integrate work experiences with academic knowledge, and establish a professional network.

Start Your Career with MDOT

Maintenance Technicians are vital for MDOT to maintain Mississippi’s highway system. These critical personnel perform maintenance activities such as pavement repair, mowing, sign repair, drainage system maintenance, storm debris removal, etc. within the Districts. Each County in the District has a maintenance office from which maintenance staff and equipment mobilize to meet the maintenance needs within that County. Maintenance technicians also assist in the operations and upkeep of all Rest Areas, Welcome Centers and MDOT facilities within the District.
Construction Technicians assist in a wide-array of construction activities within the District. These activities may include pre-construction reviews, construction inspection, contractor compliance activities, and collecting field survey data for utilization by designers. MDOT District Construction staff and equipment mobilize out of project offices (typically 4 or 5 per District) geographically distributed throughout each District.
For young engineers looking to jumpstart their careers, MDOT offers the Engineer-In-Training (EIT) program. Through the EIT program, entry level engineers are able to apply knowledge and skills learned in college while working under the supervision of a Professional Engineer.
To be considered for MDOT’s EIT program, applicants must have a certificate of registration as an Engineer-Intern and a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university.
Depending on availability, an EIT is provided with a choice on where they would like to be placed.

The Information Systems Division is responsible for ensuring the business goals and initiatives for MDOT have a strategy that is sound in technology, ultimately becoming a beneficial and operational business process and decision support team for its employees. Information Systems Supports MDOT’s Mission by Developing Solutions

As one of the largest governmental agencies in Mississippi, MDOT career opportunities for business and accounting majors cover a wide array of functions and niches. MDOT’s administration divisions are customer-service oriented while focused on compliance with oversight-agency policies and procedures, federal regulations, Mississippi law, and legislative appropriations.
