War for talent hots up as workers rate firms on their morals – The Times

Fresh out of university last year, Jess Hamby was preparing for a job interview at a tech company in Leeds and decided to do some research.
Hamby, 22, had studied chemistry at Oxford, but had little experience in software engineering other than a few free online coding courses. Yet her prospective employer was offering people of her level a £50,000 starting salary. It wasn’t enough.
She looked up the company on Glassdoor, the jobs review site where staff can post feedback. Messages about the company’s culture were so “shocking” that she cancelled the interview.
Hamby, who is from Barnsley, is among a generation of tech workers that are in such short supply that companies are throwing money and other perks at them. But for many
