A completed official City application and any required supplemental material must be submitted and date stamped by the Human Resources Department by the deadline stated on the job announcement. A separate and complete application must be filed for each position.

Subsequent to a job offer, the City of Pasadena requires a pre-employment physical and drug test consistent with current State and Federal law. Candidates will be examined by a City physician, at City expense, before appointment is approved. Pasadena residency is a factor in making an employment offer, provided all other qualifications are equal amongst other candidates.
Many positions involve frequent travel to various sites and locations to fulfill job responsibilities and may require a valid California Driver’s License or other alternative transportation arrangements made by the incumbent. Verification of a valid license is required via a current DMV printout prior to appointment, and a safe driving record.
For Open Recruitment, three additional points will be added to the passing score of Veterans who are honorably discharged with one year of active military duty. The DD214 form or other proof must be submitted at time of application.
All City employees are required to register in the City employee rideshare program. Solo drivers pay a monthly Clean Air/Parking Fee.
In accordance with State law, all City of Pasadena employees are disaster service workers and may be required to report for duty, or remain on duty, in the event of a disaster.

The Human Resources Department requires that a certified typing certificate be submitted along with a City Employment Application for all positions that specify a typing speed requirement. The certificate must be issued by an accredited school, agency or the online vendor listed below and dated no later than one year prior to the final filing date listed on the job announcement.
Current City of Pasadena employees who hold a position that requires the same or more words per minute are not required to submit a new typing certificate. Employees are responsible for verifying the typing requirement for their current classification.
There are currently two options for obtaining a typing certificate. Online and in person.
ONLINE TYPING CERTIFICATE – Effective March 17, 2020 and until further notice, the City of Pasadena will accept an online typing test obtained only through Your typing ability may be validated in person at a later date.  Please review the Pasadena Online Typing Test Instructions.
IN PERSON TYPING CERTIFICATE – An in person typing certificate may be obtained at one of the local agencies listed below. Please be sure to contact the corresponding agency first to inquire if there are any Covid related restrictions that may affect their services and hours of operation. However, you are free to obtain typing certificates from other accredited schools or agencies.
